Father's Day

It was a good day and good weekend when you get to spend Father's Day with the family. We went to South Padre Island Friday night and stayed until today. Friday night we watched fireworks. Saturday Sarah slept all morning. I went for a run (hot!) and then in the pool. We went shopping in the afternoon and had shrimp for dinner and then met up with Bridget & Ronnie for dinner again later at the condo they were staying at next door.

Today I went fishing with Luis and Dennis. Caught a skipjack and a catfish (no keepers) but I did get to bring back the trout filets they caught.

We got home and I promptly went to sleep. I've got to get to bed soon as I have a 7:30 am. meeting tomorrow before flying to Houston for the week.

Sunday June 13

I was reminded that today was the 2 year anniversary of my car accident. Sounds worse than it was. Again it was no real worry since I had good insurance and no one was hurt. Only some crumpled metal and broken plastic.

I've got a week to finish up the work for the month of June and then I head to Houston for a week and then on to vacation. Throw in the 4th of July and it will be a while until I'm back to schedule. Perhaps that's a good thing.

I read a good book, Breakthrough Triathlon Training. It talked of the importance of rest and recovery in order to free the mind for top performance. Made good sense to me, particularly in light of the long "vacation" I've taken from the triathlon training. But I have re-upped for the remaining 2 triathlons this summer and will continue working on that starting... tomorrow.

Wednesday June 9

Summertime is here and it seems that everyone is thinking about things other than work. Me included.

With my triathlon over, its resulted in a lull. I'm scheduled to do 2 others, but have not been training regularly. Its been hot, I've been resting, etc. excuses. Today the excuse was that the pool was closed at noon due to local flooding that caused dirt from the park to flood the pool. Maybe tomorrow.

Susan is leaving for Los Angeles to receive an award on behalf of the hospital. Sarah and I plan to see "Get Him to the Greek" tonight. We watched the prequel "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" last night - reminded me that it was not a particularly good movie but it was better than watching basketball.

Quiet night

Both Susan and Sarah are out doing different things tonight, so I'm home. I was going to watch a movie but I've been blacklisted at Blockbuster. They claim I haven't returned 3 movies. Can't seem to find them around the house so...

Life's little rules apply

When youre ready to watch TV, there's nothing good on

When you have money, there's nothing you want to buy

When you want to go out, you can't find a date

And so on....

End of school

Today was the last day of school (10th grade) for Sarah. She's now 16, has a driver's license and goes by herself just about everywhere and will be a junior in high school. Best of all, she has no plans for the next few weeks except to watch 3 seasons of Grey's Anatomy.

I was kind of at loose ends today. Trying to get back into the swing of things. Without any training to work towards, I had a lot of extra time I didn't know exactly what to do with. I did get many personal tasks done and will continue those tomorrow. I've got some bills to send out as well at work.

Friday, I'll be heading to Austin by air for a seminar on Lawyers's ASsistance Program which I look forward to learning more about. Its a program to assist/intervene with lawyers with substance abuse problems. I'm thinking of getting on the state bar committee, but i wanted to learn more first. Go and see as they say at Toyota.

I signed up for another Triathlon in Shreveport LA on August 1 and am also planning to do the Longhorn 70.3 Half Ironman in October. So this week is a little break before... more training!
